PostSubject: Cool Text Icons, Every one can did it using this way! Cool Text Icons, Every one can did it using this way! EmptySat Feb 18, 2012 11:22 pm

Please do not ouse in place for regular text as it makes things harder to read.

Many of you know about the "cool little keyboard symbols" you can make on various computers. Usually, in these how-to guides, they say to hold the Alt key and press a number combination.

This means that those of you without desktops or Macs are often out of luck.

Or so you think. There is a way to do these on ANY computer while using the internet, regardless of brand, model, or operating system.

All you have to do is use HTML character entities.

What are these? All of them are simply the & (ampersand) sign, a number code or keyword, and then the ; (semicolon) sign.

For example, you can make ♥ on any computer by typing ♥. You can make † by typing †. It's really easy.
For the ones that don't have easy keywords, you'll have to remember or look up a number code. For example, that same ♥ symbol can be made by ♥.

For a good reference of nearly all of the symbols, I have decided to list a few common ones that you guys like to use. Google "HTML character entities" to find some compilations of more. :3

IF ALL YOU SEE IS A WHITE-OUTLINED BOX WHEN USING THESE, THE SYMBOL DOESN'T WORK FOR YOUR COMPUTER/BROWSER'S CURRENT CHARSET. Sorry. :/
I'm currently in the process of trying to figure out how to configure your browser to render them better. In the meantime... use Firefox? xD

These are all CASE SENSITIVE. This means that DAGGER doesn't mean the same as dagger to the computer, and Hearts and hearts are different. If it's typed in lowercase, it's supposed to be that way. If it's capitalized, it is for a reason.

& Notes &
An easy way to show others how to do this, if you don't want your explanation accidentally putting the symbols (like ♥ for your explanation of ♥ ), then a good way to put it is this-

& for the & symbol, then the character code, then the ; semicolon. The full code for ♥ in this post is
♥ . Make sense at all?

Also, when you put a bunch of spaces, normally HTML (including the forums) just squishes it together like one space. To add a lot of spaces like this, put . :3 One counts as one blank space each.
